a story to smile at

To help better prepare her daughter for pageants, Patsy hired a coach for JonBenet. She asked Pam Griffin, the seamstress who created JonBenet’s custom pageant outfits, if her daughter, Kristine, would be interested. Kristine, who was a beauty queen herself and a senior in high school at the time, agreed. Using the makeshift runway in the Griffin’s basement, she taught JonBenet how to properly do a pageant walk and poses on stage. In between practices they would take a break to play video games. The two quickly felt more like sisters rather than a coach and student.

One day, while Kristine was visiting the Ramsey’s house, JonBenet decided that instead of practising to be a pageant star, she would take on the role of match maker. John Andrew, JonBenet’s oldest brother, was visiting home to help John paint a room, and JonBenet thought he and Kristine would make the perfect couple. The little girl interrupted the lesson to announce this to Kristine. She was determined to make it happen. Giggling, JonBenet grabbed her coach by the hand and tried to drag her out to meet John Andrew. Despite Kristine’s amused protests, JonBenet persisted, at least until Kristine was finally able to distract her.
