*From addendum of 12/29 - Sergeant Whitson ... spoke to John Ramsey who identified himself as the owner of the residence and the father of JonBenét Ramsey who he reported was now missing. Sergeant Whitson told Your Affiant that John Ramsey stated to him that all the doors to the residence were locked when he and his family went to bed on the previous evening of December 25, 1996. Sergeant Whitson told Your Affiant that John Ramsey told him that the doors were still locked this morning when they discovered the child was missing.
.
But a word on the security of the house - *From warrant addendum #2 - On December 28, 1996 Your Affiant observed that the Ramsey residence has several exterior doors and windows. Your Affiant observed that many of these potential entrances into the house are secured with locks or locking mechanisms.
.
Later, on Primetime Live, Mike Bynum gave Diane Sawyer a tour of the house. Not all exterior doors had dead bolts, some were simple push locks.
.
In November, more information came out in the news . From the Rocky Mountain News - "But the source said a police officer inspected the 15-room home after the Ramseys called police at 5:45 a.m. Dec. 26 and found six windows unlocked. A basement window also was broken, but John Ramsey said he had cracked the window months earlier after returning home from a trip without a house key. The officer also found the rear exterior door by the kitchen unlocked. The same door showed evidence of a pry mark by the door jam, according to search warrants, but a locksmith whose company changed the locks in the home for police said he did not believe the home had been broken into."

We know there was an unsecured grate outside, lift it and there was a broken pane in a window. A hand through the broken pane could unlatch the window, a window large enough for a man to enter through.
We also know that there were other windows unlatched, extension cords carried power to the Christmas decorations from indoor outlets.

With 6 exterior doors on the first level alone, might one door have been left unlocked accidentally? Might one have been unlocked by some guest at the house on the 23rd? Could it have remained unlocked and unnoticed until the killer used it to gain entry on the 25th? Did the family check the locks on a daily basis. The door between the house and the attached garage was not routinely locked, was the exterior door to the garage?
